5.1 Surround Sound, Home Theater?
I am looking for a 5.1 Surround Sound Home theater System, and i don’t know what im looking for. I don’t want to spend more than $700-$900, I am working with a 15′2” X 13′8” room, I have a 1080p HD Projector. What would be best for this setup!!
You have two options: you can get a home theater in a box which comes with the reciever and speakers or you can get them seperate. If you want a quality system, get them seperate. If you want to the the idea of a home theater then just get the package. I would suggest getting a yamaha reciever and a 5 speaker package with a powered subwoofer. For a thousand dollars you can get a good sound system.
MAKE SURE you do NOT use RCA (red, white, yellow) cables. Use an optical cable. RCA cables do not carry six channels of sound, they carry only 2.1 stereo. If you use these cables (RCA) with a surround sound system you will only get a virtual sound, and not true 5.1.

Are those home theater projecters any good?
Ive been looking at a Sony 3LCD HD Home Theater Projector but I dont know anybody that has had one of these systems. Are they worth the money or is it better to just go with a LCD television?

It’s not a bad idea to pick up an LCD in addition to the projector for watching TV in the daytime… the bulbs in the projectors have a limited lifespan and they are very expensive. Additionally, if there is too much light in the room, the projected image will be washed out and not look as good. I have a 40″ 1080p LCD for regular TV in the daytime and a 110″ 1080p LCD projector that I mostly use for movies and video games.
in any event, it is smart to buy LCOS, LCD, or SXRD instead of DLP. All single chip DLP projectors have a rainbow wheel that translates into the “rainbow effect” – it hurts my eyes when I look at a DLP image.
